Blair Macdonald: I have made (what I think are) discoveries about fractals and information that I would like to share. From here I shall go on to publish these works, so this is my (kind of) laboratory. This blog, like all developed 'works', is my own little fractal: it will - over time, if you follow - take shape and form a theory of everything. My intensions are to blog (in this rough/irregular form) my insights so as to find an audience: this is just too much to keep to oneself – and far too much fun.

Natural fractal lake, Arethusa Pool, the worlds only?

Is Arethusa Pool (New Zealand) and its island's the worlds only natural fractal lake? I was there with my family in January: it was a wonderful day, and very exciting for me - mathematically speaking. Arethusa Pool (and its island) is on Mou Waho Island, which is on Lake Wanaka, which is on the South Island of New Zealand, which is in the South Pacific Ocean. Water (the South Pacific Ocean), land (South Island New Zealand), water (lake Wanaka), land (Mou Waho Island) , water (Arethusa Pool), land (islands on Arethusa Pool); water in a puddle after rain (or when I filled it), land as small as a square centimeter inside the puddle, ..... water?? Arethusa Pool, and Lake Wanaka New Zealand 2015.

Fractal Dimension, (Economic's) Elasticity and Complexity

Update May 2017 This is by far my best idea; I have written it up in a working paper at my academia.edu and vixra , and named it: Quantum Mechanics, Information and Knowledge, all Aspects of Fractal Geometry and Revealed in an Understanding of Marginal Economics. I shall post the Abstract, followed by the original post, followed by the paper. I hope to have someone collaborate and review my work in time. Abstract Fractal geometry is found universally and is said to be one of the best descriptions of our reality – from clouds and trees to market price behaviour. Update May 2015 I have recently (and finally) published my findings: Reinterpreting and Augmenting John Tyndall’s 1859 Greenhouse Gas Experiment with Thermoelectric Theory and Raman Spectroscopy at: academia.edu/ and http://vixra.org/abs/1504.0165 . Abstract Climate science's fundamental premise – assumed by all parties in the great climate debate – says the greenhouse gases – constituting less than 2% of Earth’s atmosphere, first derived by John Tyndall‘s in his 1859 thermopile experiment, and demonstrated graphically today by infrared spectroscopy – are special because of their IR (heat) absorbing property. From this, it is – paradoxically – assumed the (remaining 98%) non-greenhouse gases N 2 nitrogen and O 2 oxygen are non-heat absorbent. This paper reveals, by elementary physics, the (deceptive) role thermopiles play in this paradox . Fractal: Wave Particle Duality

I have since published in 2023: This entry is one of a set of entries on the fractal and the strange (quantum-like) nature of them. I use the word quantum because there is no other area of knowledge that comes close to explaining or relating to the discoveries I am making with fractal geometry. Blair 11,03,2013 Wave and particle D uality - and the fractal The below entry is a discovery, not an explanation. I (intend to) write what I see, and what I expect I have found - I do not pretend to fully understand. Just as the atom can ' weirdly' be described as being both a particle and as a ‘smeared out’ wave at the same time, so too, as I shall demonstrate, can the fractal be described in such a way - only for the fractal it is not so weird. The fractal demonstrating a (discrete) particle: The fractal is defined by a pattern, object or shape repeating or iterating. The Koch Snowflake (below) demonstrates this iterating - the triangle represents the particle.

Lorenz Curve of the Koch Snowflake Fractal

Update 2015, I have published/posted. I have found that Lorenz distribution is a fractal phenomenon. That the fractal models the Lorenz Curve and Gini coefficients increase as the fractal grows and develops. The distribution between groups accelerates with growth and development. Fractal Koch Snowflake Spiral

The Koch Snowflake Spiral On route to understanding, if fractals have a 'wavy' like nature , I finally put pencil to paper and drew what I'd been thinking. I have been pondering on what effect a 'mutation' or change to one triangle - a dot at the apex of the triangle as shown below - would have or show on the iterating Koch Snowflake. I envisaged that it would spiral to infinity as shown below. By tracing a smooth curve through the (red) 'dots' series of iterated mutant triangles, I would develop - what looks like - a kind of logarithmic spiral , or a wave or pulse if this spiral curve was viewed in the front elevation view as opposed to the plan elevation (above). Method As a circle's radius (what the compass is set to) scribes 6 times around the circles circumference , the three corners of the 1st equilateral triangle (iteration 1) can be produced, and the apex of the 2nd triangle (iteration 2) can also be marked.
