Blair Macdonald: I have made (what I think are) discoveries about fractals and information that I would like to share. From here I shall go on to publish these works, so this is my (kind of) laboratory. This blog, like all developed 'works', is my own little fractal: it will - over time, if you follow - take shape and form a theory of everything. My intensions are to blog (in this rough/irregular form) my insights so as to find an audience: this is just too much to keep to oneself – and far too much fun.

Natural fractal lake, Arethusa Pool, the worlds only?

By Blair Macdonald on February 09, 2015

Is Arethusa Pool (New Zealand) and its islands the world's only natural fractal lake? I was there with my family in January. It was a wonderful day and very exciting for me—mathematically speaking. Arethusa Pool (and its island) is on Mou Waho Island, Lake Wanaka, the South Island of New Zealand, and the South Pacific Ocean. Water (the South Pacific Ocean), land (South Island New Zealand), water (lake Wanaka), land (Mou Waho Island), water (Arethusa Pool), land (islands on Arethusa Pool); water in a puddle after rain (or when I filled it), land as small as a square centimetre inside the puddle, ..... water?? Arethusa Pool, and Lake Wanaka New Zealand 2015.

Fractal Dimension, (Economic's) Elasticity and Complexity

By Blair Macdonald on October 19, 2010

Update May 2017 This is by far my best idea; I have written it up in a working paper at my academia.edu and vixra , and named it: Quantum Mechanics, Information and Knowledge, all Aspects of Fractal Geometry and Revealed in an Understanding of Marginal Economics. I shall post the Abstract, followed by the original post, followed by the paper. I hope to have someone collaborate and review my work in time. Abstract Fractal geometry is found universally and is said to be one of the best descriptions of our reality – from clouds and trees to market price behaviour. As a fractal structure emerges – the repeating of a simple rule – it appears to share direct properties familiar to classical economics, including production, consumption, and equilibrium. This paper was an investigation into whether the mathematical principles behind ‘the market’ – known as marginalism – is an aspect or manifestation of a fractal geometry or attractor. Total and margin...

ePublic Goods. Is the internet making new public goods?

By Blair Macdonald on October 09, 2010

Keywords: Public Goods, Internet, Media, Copyright, Market Failure, File Sharing, ePublic Goods An Explanation of the Mass Failure in the Market: the Internet – the Creator of ePublic Goods First published: October 9, 2010 Abstract Media and entertainment industries are declining; profitability is down due to ‘freer computer access. Is the internet producing ‘Public goods’ from what were Private goods? With respect to these goods and the Internet, the assumption used to classify ‘Private goods' and Public goods in an economy (the degree of excludability and rivalry) was analysed, and the respective industries were tested for being Public Goods. It was concluded that these goods within the entertainment/media industries are slowly being repositioned from what is termed 'private' or 'club'/'congestion' goods to their extreme opposite, public goods. The ‘free rider problem’ of Public Goods has become the ‘free copy problem’ with respect to t...

Fractals - Marginal Analysis of the Koch Snowflake

By Blair Macdonald on October 13, 2010

Marginalism and Marginal Analysis are derived from the fractal (?) Update May 2017 This is by far my best idea; I have written it up in a working paper at my academia.edu and vixra , and named it: Quantum Mechanics, Information and Knowledge, all Aspects of Fractal Geometry and Revealed in an Understanding of Marginal Economics. Fractal: Wave Particle Duality

By Blair Macdonald on January 06, 2012

I have since published in 2023: This entry is one of a set of entries on the fractal and their strange (quantum-like) nature. I use the word quantum because no other area of knowledge comes close to explaining or relating to the discoveries I am making with fractal geometry. Blair 11,03,2013 Wave and particle D uality - and the fractal The entry below is a discovery, not an explanation. I (intend to) write what I see and what I expect I have found— I do not pretend to fully understand. Just as the atom can ' weirdly' be described as being both a particle and as a ‘smeared out’ wave at the same time, so too, as I shall demonstrate, can the fractal be described in such a way - only for the fractal it is not so weird. The fractal demonstrating a (discrete) particle: The fractal is defined by a pattern, object or shape repeating or iterating. The Koch Snowflake (below) demonstrates this iterating - the triangle re...

The gassy messenger: N2 and O2 are also greenhouse gases

By Blair Macdonald on October 29, 2013

Update May 2015 I have recently (and finally) published my findings: Reinterpreting and Augmenting John Tyndall’s 1859 Greenhouse Gas Experiment with Thermoelectric Theory and Raman Spectroscopy at: academia.edu/ and http://vixra.org/abs/1504.0165 . Abstract Climate science's fundamental premise – assumed by all parties in the great climate debate – says the greenhouse gases – constituting less than 2% of Earth’s atmosphere, first derived by John Tyndall in his 1859 thermopile experiment and demonstrated graphically today by infrared spectroscopy – are unique because of their IR (heat) absorbing property. From this, it is – paradoxically – assumed the (remaining 98%) non-greenhouse gases N 2 nitrogen and O 2 oxygen are non-heat absorbent. This paper reveals, by elementary physics, the (deceptive) role thermopiles play in this paradox . It was found that for a speci...

The Gassy Messenger: the magic of IR thermopiles

By Blair Macdonald on December 27, 2013

I have now published my updated theory of the atmosphere. Augmenting 19th Century Thermoelectric Greenhouse Theory with 20th Century Quantum Mechanics Raman Spectroscopy: Towards a Coherent Radiation Theory of the Atmosphere Update: 22,04,2015 I have recently (and finally) published: Reinterpreting and Augmenting John Tyndall’s 1859 Greenhouse Gas Experiment with Thermoelectric Theory and Raman Spectroscopy at: academia.edu/ and http://vixra.org/abs/1504.0165 . Here is a youtube presentation of my findings: Abstract Climate science's fundamental premise – assumed by all parties in the great climate debate – says the greenhouse gases – constituting less than 2% of Earth’s atmosphere, first derived by John Tyndall in his 1859 thermopile experiment and demonstrated graphically today by infrared IR spectroscopy – are special because of their IR (heat) absorbing property. From this, it is – paradoxically – assumed the (remaining 98%) ...

Lorenz Curve of the Koch Snowflake Fractal

By Blair Macdonald on January 08, 2011

Update 2015, I have published/posted. I have found that Lorenz distribution is a fractal phenomenon. The Lorenz Curve and Gini coefficients increase in the fractal models as the fractal grows and develops. The distribution between groups accelerates with growth and development. Lorenz distribution is universal: income and wealth inequality is a scale-invariant aspect of a universal phenomenon. https://www.academia.edu Demonstrating_Lorenz_Wealth_Distribution_and_Increasing_Gini_Coefficient_with_the_Iterating_Koch_Snowflake_Fractal_Attractor Also see: Improved Fractal Lorenz Curve Wealth Distribution: a (universal) fractal phenomena I was teaching income distribution recently, and I thought the (Koch Curve) fractal may demonstrate the Lorenz Curve . After doing this entry I analysed a (Xmas) tree for Lorenz distribution. Click to see. I could not make any obvious connection between the Lorenz Curve's income distribution and the Koch sn...

Fractal Koch Snowflake Spiral

By Blair Macdonald on April 13, 2012

The Koch Snowflake Spiral 2024: last year, I published, using the following, an interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. https://www.fractalnomics.com/2023/05/fractal%20foundational%20quantum%20theory%20published%20.html International Journal of Quantum Foundations, Speculations. The Fractal Corresponds with Light and Foundational Quantum Problems Experiment on Inverted Fractal Corresponds with Cosmological Observations and Conjectures On route to understanding if fractals have a 'wavy' like nature , I finally put pencil to paper and drew what I'd been thinking. I have been pondering what effect a 'mutation' or change to one triangle - a dot at the apex of the triangle as shown below - would have or show on the iterating Koch Snowflake. I envisaged that it would spiral to infinity, as shown below. By tracing a smooth curve through the (red) 'dots' series of iterated mutant triangles, I would develop - what looks like - a kind of logarith...

Debunking Greenhouse Theory Physics

By Blair Macdonald on July 21, 2017

I have now published my updated theory of the atmosphere. Augmenting 19th Century Thermoelectric Greenhouse Theory with 20th Century Quantum Mechanics Raman Spectroscopy: Towards a Coherent Radiation Theory of the Atmosphere Debunking Greenhouse Theory Physics The Gassy Messenger. Abstract Modern climate science's fundamental premise (or assumption) is that greenhouse gases (around 2% of the atmosphere) absorb radiant infrared (IR) heat (as derived by IR spectroscopy) and are the main climate driver because of this speciality. This premise originates with the John Tyndall 1859 thermopile infrared detection experiment . The (other) non-greenhouse gases (N 2 nitrogen and O 2 oxygen) are distinguished from the greenhouse gases by their (said * ) inability to absorb (infrared) heat, as deduced from the same experiment: here, absorption is confused with opacity. Raman spectroscopy (a complement to ...
